The road from sacremento up to Tahoe. Just before we went, they got 7 feet of snow, which made for some amazing skiing and a fresh repsect for true snow removal challenges.

In theory this shouldn't bother me because the gap was actually and independent clothing store started in the 70's before it became a mega chain and started inspiring body image problems the world over. But given its current status the presence of the GAP at the corner of Haight and Asbury in SF is positively revolting. And for something completely different, its annoying yet surprisingly easy to type with the pre blood donation iron test band aid on you ring finger.

710 Asbury, a shadow of its former glory. This is the house where the dead were living back at the height of the crazyness back in the late sixties. While were on the subject, no I'm not that old (23) but I do have a certain reverence for much of the 20th century, especially various counter cultures.

One of my favorite things about SF was the weather. One can drive form SF across to marin county and find it sunny and warm. Or for that matter you can go downtown to soak up some sun when its foggy in the upper haight

More than a few people have looked at me like i I have a third eye when I tell them that the buses in SF are electric (mostly). Power is collected and returned through the two wires strung over head. The two poles on the top of the bus are sprung to keep persure one the wires, and there is a shoe at the end of the pole shaped like a hot dog bun that holds against the wire.

This shot would make a decent book cover with the title in the upper left. The perspective depth is probably a complete accident but a nice one at that.

Set the way back machine for about a year ago. I went to a master class on rigging from the master himself Jay O Glerum, and he related to us a favorie past time of his that he called the "DumbAssTrussGame". Played of course by walking around entertainment conferences looking for improperly hung truss in the last place that it ought to be. Flash forward to Toronto 05 and sure enough I give you DumbAssTruss. The horizontal Truss in the picture is roated 90 degrees on axis giving it the relative strength of an ocello sponge.

Some time early that morning on our way, we took part in the great American past-time of flipping of Hummers. The game was over about the time it began since there just weren't that many hummers in the Virginias and PA. which constituted a large portion of our routing.

So seven months after I had gone to Toronto at random I went back with two friends whom shall remain nameless (unitl my next post, wa ha ha ha ) albeit not faceless. So we got in the car and drove 15 hours in the name of proffessional development. Ariving and promplty seeking out beer which is what any sane human would do after driving that long.

This uniquie torture looking device is actually called a sweeper. That bristle looking device under the front end rotates in a manner that squeegees slush and snow off of city streets that have tracks in them. That, sadly enough, is all I have for toronto pics. I apparently wasn't in a particular shutter bug mood that trip and lots of pictures didn't come out very well. Next up is the follow up trip to toronto For the USITT convention last march.

This is a beautifully washed out picture of a pcc from the same museum. This is a type of car that replaced the orginal work horse of the city, the Peter Witt pictured previously,and predates the cars currently being used.

So there we were, summer 2004 a week before I move to the south. Hey we could be in Toronto by sundown... Sure Why not? This is a museum we went west of toronto. The Street car on the truck is headed in to toronto for a film shoot. Something involving Russel Crowe and Boxing. Apparently they do this a few times a year and make some serious change off of it.

You know that dramatic situation used in every teen drama ever made where the friend has to choose between honoring his friend or telling the truth to the girlfriend that just got half cheated on. We'll call it "crossroads" because it's just as silly as the situation.
I have finally found myself in/at the "crossroads".
Three friends go to a party, friend one is married but left the wife at home. Friend two lives in little white house in suburbia with live in boyfriend but boyfriend is out of town. Friend three is single and has no idea what he's getting into.
The three friends go to party that looks an awful lot like caligula. Definately no kidding here. This is acutally the kind of part that friend three has always regreted never having been to, until tonight.
It happens that friend three is the only one out of the three of them that has a shread of common sense when drinking. Friends one and two hit the punch bowl, folllowed by the liquor cabinet followed in turn by the dance floor/room, reverse ad repeat. Then repeat again.
It should be noted that the atmosphere is important. Women clad only in wonder woman underwear. Half naked men getting lap dances. Star crossed lovers chained to one another. I could elaborate but you get the picture.
Back to friends one and two, who have by now with out warning started on emprical minded research to find out which is better. Making out on the porch. Making out on the couch. Or making out in the kitchen.
It occurs to friend three around this time that he has become the designatedfuckingdriver with out really volunteering. This is what in some cultures is known as a buzz kill.
The after math is that friend three drives friend two home whilst pulling over occaisionally to let friend one puck out the window of his own car. Friend one then sleeps on friend three's couch. Friend one goes home to his wife early the next morning and is never heard from again (in the next two hours) Friend three takes friend two's car to friend two's house and gets ride back from friend two.
Friend three wonders in the aftermath if it will come to pass that he will have to decide between telling the truth to an angy significtantother, to the detriment of friend one or two, or lieng to an angry significant other to help out friend one or two. This of course has not yet come to pass and may never. But what the hell is friend three gonna do if it happens .

So if your looking for some insentive to stop eating fastfood, I higly recommend the movie Super Size Me. Reading FastFoodNation by Eric Schlosser didn't quite gross me out enough make me give up a serious Micky D's vice, but this movie just might have done it for me.

Helpful hints to knowing when you have chosen poorly when offered a ride from a stranger

Hint 1 , the driver is squinting and making a "too much light! face"

Hint 2 , after several seconds reflection, the driver seems to have bathed in alchohol

Hint 3 , the driver was dumb enough to pick you up in the first place

Hint 4 , You realise on further inspection that the vehicle is a late sixties mustang lacking both airbags and seatbelts.

Keep these helpful hint in mind the next time you accept a ride from a stranger and wonder if you have chosen poorly
